Since its inception in July 1998, CV6.ORG has been hosted by Coastline.com, located in Santa Barbara, California. Coastline has consistently provided solid service, keeping the site up and available and responding quickly to tech support issues. If this site has always been here when you've visited, you can thank Coastline for their efforts.
But, it turns out there is a deeper tie between Enterprise and Coastline.com. As many visitors to this site know, Thomas J. Hamilton was one of the most respected and beloved officers to serve in the Big E. While his normal assignment was Air Officer, he also commanded the ship in July 1943, including the voyage from Hawaii to Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton, WA. He retired as Rear Admiral, and was always a strong supporter of the Enterprise CV-6 Association.
Admiral Hamilton was also the great uncle of John Dickson ... the president of Coastline.com.
This remarkable coincidence was revealed only recently, nearly four years after this web site went online. Mr. Dickson wrote:
"That ship is a big part of my family. My great uncle, Thomas Hamilton was captain of the USS Enterprise CV-6 for a period. My whole life I have seen pictures, movies and heard stories about the Enterprise directly from Tom. Sadly he passed away in the mid 1990's. His wife, my great aunt, Emmie Hamilton is still alive and well (in her 90's) in Columbus, Ohio. She still wears the CV-6 cap!"
In an act of great generosity, Mr. Dickson and Coastline.com are now hosting CV6.ORG free of charge.
This is great news: certainly for the web site, but more importantly for the Big E and her men. Coastline.com's sponsorship goes a long way towards securing Enterprise's story on the web, towards ensuring the stories, photos, and documents on this site are available to all for years to come. I'm grateful for Mr. Dickson's and Coastline's sponsorship of the site, symbolizing a spirit of which Admiral Hamilton would be proud.
