This Plan of the Day, dated 21 March 1945, was issued the day after Enterprise was damaged by "friendly" fire and two near-misses by enemy bombs.

PLAN OF THE DAY FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21, 1945.

General Directive: Underway; General Quarters; Burial Services; Carry Out Air Department Plan Of The Day.

0445 Reveille. Stow all bedding in flash proof covers. Stow all laundry bags in lockers or flash proof covers.
0502 Sound Officers' call on Officers' circuit.
0512 GENERAL QUARTERS. Set condition ABLE.
0607 Set condition BAKER above the 3rd deck if circumstances permit.
0612 Sunrise. Secure from General Quarters. Light ship. Set condition II in the Gunnery Department if circumstances permit.
0622 Sweep down all decks and ladders. Empty all trash containers at the incinerator.
0630 to 0730 Breakfast for all personnel not on watch.
0730 to 0800 Breakfast for 0400 - 0800 watch only.
0800 Turn to. Clean up the ship. Muster on station. Submit reports to the Executive Officer's Office by 0900.
1000 Burial Services on the Flight Deck Aft for personnel killed in action 20 March.
1100 Lunch for Starboard Watch.
1200 Lunch for Port Watch.
1300 Turn to. Continue to clean up ship. Sweep down all decks and ladders. Empty all trash containers at the incinerator.
1615 Dinner for Port Watch.
1715 Dinner for Starboard Watch.
1824 Sunset. TORPEDO DEFENSE. Darken ship.
1924 Secure from Torpedo Defense. Set condition III in the Gunnery Department if circumstances permit.

The following message received from Admiral GARDNER:

I HAVE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS MY ADMIRATION OF THE CONDUCT OF THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE ENTERPRISE DURING THE ACTION THIS AFTERNOON X ENTERPRISE HAS AGAIN SHOWN THAT SHE CAN TAKE IT WHILE STANDING INDOMINITABLY TO HER GUNS AND FIGHTING X WE MOURN OUR LOSSES X THEY WERE BRAVE AND THEY WILL BE AVENGED XX

The following message received from Admiral DAVISON:

ACCEPT MY ADMIRATION AND GRATITUDE FOR THE GALLANT PERFORMANCE OF ENTERPRISE THIS AFTERNOON X SHE HAS CROWNED AN ALREADY GLORIOUS CAREER WITH FRESH LAURELS X WELL DONE X

The following message received from Captain HALL:

To the Officers and the Crew of the ENTERPRISE and her Air Group. Words cannot express the feeling of pride in the performance of the entire crew in yesterday's attack. All hands performed splendidly and bravely. I hope to make the above rewards part of every officer's and man's record.

Fire fighting gear:

All divisions check and renew fire-fighting gear as necessary. Spare gear may be obtained through the First Lieutenant's Office (885). Check all CO2 bottles near areas of fire yesterday and turn in empty bottles to CO2 shop over fantail for refilling.
