Destroyer Escort Wyffels DE-6, named in honor of Enterprise CV-6 Carpenter Lawrence E. Wyffels, who was killed in action at Santa Cruz, 26 October 1942. Less than two weeks earlier, Wyffels had been awarded a Silver Star for his actions at the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, 24 August 1942.

Wyffels DE-6 served primarily in the Mediterranean and Atlantic during World War II, earning a Battle Star before being decommissioned on 25 September 1945.
