As Enterprise enters Pearl Harbor on 30 May 1945, Ford Island planes salute her, flying overhead forming a "V" for Victory and "E" for Enterprise (pictured here). Enterprise departed Pearl Harbor less than 48 hours later, trailing a huge 578 foot long pennant: one foot for every day she'd been away from her destination, the US West Coast.
