Len C. Thornton AMM 3/c appears to enjoy the hair styling efforts of VT-10 squadron-mates William P. Whitley AOM 2/c (left), Robert W. Gruebel AMM 1/c, and Robert F. Antellope CY, during Enterprise CV-6's pollywog initiation, 22 January 1944.

Less than a month after this photo was taken, Thornton was killed in action during the Task Force 58 raid on Truk Atoll, 16-17 February 1944.
