Wasp CV-7 is listing and on fire after being struck by torpedoes fired by a Japanese submarine, 15 September 1942. Uncontrollable fires soon overwhelmed the carrier, and the 'Abandon Ship' order was given less than an hour after the attack. She sank that evening.
