Seven rescued aviators - six from Enterprise CV-6, one from Langley CVL-27 - balance carefully on the wings of an OS2U Kingfisher float plane off Truk Atoll, 30 April 1944. Piloted by LT(jg) John Burns from the battleship North Carolina BB-55, the plane, unable to take off due to rough seas and excess weight, taxied across the sea for three hours picking up downed aviators, before rendezvousing with submarine Tang SS-206. Tang carried 22 aviators to safety that day.
