Abandoning Hornet CV-8
Listing heavily, and badly damaged by Japanese air attacks, Hornet CV-8 is abandoned around 1700 (5:00PM) 26 October 1942.
Hornet proved to be an incredibly difficult ship to sink. US Navy attempts to scuttle her failed, and she finally succumbed to four Japanese "Long Lance" torpedoes late that night.
