Damage to Enterprise's hull, port-side aft, caused by a near miss, 11 April 1945. A Japanese Zeke attempted to crash-dive the carrier and narrowly missed, clipping two 40mm mounts before falling into the sea. The plane's bomb detonated beneath the ship, bending two propeller shafts, shaking the ship violently. The plane's engine tore open the hole shown in this photo.
