The first of two near misses by Japanese bombs explodes off Enterprise CV-6's port quarter, 20 March 1945. Note the low elevation of anti-aircraft bursts above the ship. Less than an hour later, two "friendly" 5" anti-aircraft shells would kill eight and wound 31 aboard the Big E.
