1945 - Night Air Operations

Enterprise CV-6 and her airgroups pioneered the development of airborne radar and carrier-based night air combat. As early as October 1942, a radar-equipped torpedo plane operated as part of Air Group Ten. In November 1943, Air Group Six Commanding Officer Edward "Butch" O'Hare and Air Officer Tom Hamilton experimented with a revolutionary technique for night air interception. By 1945, Enterprise was operating as a dedicated night carrier, with Night Air Group Ninety: the first naval air group trained specifically for night operations.
